Privacy policy
Dayline is a day planner and personal timeline for iPhone. This policy explains how the current beta handles your information.
Information on your device
Dayline stores your plans, journal text, recordings, videos, photo references and thumbnails, photo search words, location samples, visits, routines and day scores locally. It also stores your preferences, chosen background and avatar. The current beta does not sync your timeline or journal to a Dayline server, and CloudKit sync is not enabled.
Local summaries may be available to Dayline widgets, Siri and the iPhone's Spotlight search. Account session credentials are kept in the iPhone's Keychain. Search conversations and thumbs-up/down ratings last only for the current session; temporary search audio is deleted when you close the search.
Permissions and how we use them
You control access through iOS Settings. Dayline uses permissions for the following features:
- Location: builds your places, routes and routines using visits, significant movement and background location updates. Saved route points follow your selected 1, 5 or 10 minute interval.
- Photos: reads the photos you allow, including dates and saved locations, to add photos to your timeline and optionally index them for search. It stores local thumbnails and detected words. Photo analysis runs on-device in batches; cloud-only assets are skipped until locally available. A person-detection heuristic tries to skip prominent-person photos, but may make mistakes. You can also pick images for your journal, background or avatar.
- Microphone and speech recognition: record journal and search voice clips only while recording. Transcription requires on-device recognition and does not fall back to remote speech recognition.
- Health, motion and Reminders: reads steps, distance, workouts, motion signals for sleep/wake estimates, and reminder counts. Dayline does not write to Health or Reminders.
- Contacts: shows a local invitation list. Notifications: schedules local reminders, not server push notifications.
AI and photo processing
Search interpretation and voice-note titles use Apple's on-device models where available. Search may use your question and saved search terms; title generation may use a transcript. Photo classification, text recognition and face detection use Apple's Vision framework on your device. Dayline does not send these inputs to a cloud language model in this beta.
Accounts and online services
Accounts use Supabase. Email sign-in sends your email and verification code to that service. Apple or Google sign-in sends the required identity tokens; Google sign-in can also use an access token. Profile updates can send your full name, and account functions include email changes, session restoration and sign-out. Apple sign-in may supply your name and email; Google sign-in may supply profile information and an avatar image, which the app downloads. This account service does not receive your timeline or journal for sync in the current beta.
Maps and place features use Apple services. Coordinates, place-search text and route endpoints may be sent to Apple for maps, nearby places, reverse-geocoding, autocomplete and routes. This means location information does not always remain only on your phone. An optional Google Places opening-hours lookup is disabled in this build.
Feedback and support
Feedback opens an email draft addressed to daylineappsupport@gmail.com. You review it and choose whether to send it through your email app. Search feedback can include a shortened question and answer in the subject. Report a Concern includes your written concern and the full question and answer. Your sending email address and anything else you include are received by support and handled by the email providers involved. Avoid including information you do not want to share.
Thumbs-up/down ratings are session-only and are not uploaded. Feedback is not sent automatically in this beta.
No ads or third-party tracking
Dayline does not include advertising, third-party tracking or an app analytics service in the current beta. We do not sell your personal information. Account, mapping, sign-in and email providers process information needed for the features described above under their own policies.
Your choices and deletion
You can change permissions in iOS Settings. Profile > Your data signs you out and removes the app's local database, Spotlight index, saved voice/video files, background, avatar and preferences. It does not delete your Supabase server account, clear shared widget summaries, cancel pending notifications or delete emails already sent to support. Contact support about account or support-email data; do not treat the local reset as a complete erasure of all copies.
Website analytics
The usedayline.com website uses Microsoft Clarity to collect usage and behavior data, such as page views, clicks and scrolling, to help us understand how visitors use the site. This is separate from the Dayline app. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Changes and contact
We will update this policy before introducing account-linked timeline or journal sync, a server feedback relay, cloud AI, analytics or other new data handling. New features may need different disclosures and permission choices.
